Project Overview

Custom Primary Suite in Bridgeland Calgary

Creating character and charm in newly renovated space.

Project Overview

After a renovation this primary suite in Bridgeland, Calgary needed to be decorated. The renovation gave the homeowners a bigger bedroom and ensuite but it lacked any personality. The goal of this interior decorating project was to infuse add more mid-century elements and bring the room to life with furnishings and artwork.

Location: Bridgeland, Calgary

Project Type: Interior Decorating

Size: 260 square feet

The Vision

The homeowners wanted to be able to have a modern bedroom with vintage charm and a room that truly reflected them. Building on an earlier renovation, after decorating this primary suite it was finally complete.

Client Testimonial

"Kim was able to continue the same colour palette in the rest of the home in the primary bedroom and create a visually interesting space. The care she took to commission a custom piece of artwork was the 'pièce de résistance'. She worked with the artist to create something truly unique."

Concept

The goal with the concept for this Bridgeland primary bedroom update was to incorporate layers with different textures. Leather, wool, cotton and wood. The vintage nightstands being the centrepiece of the design.

Drawings

The updated floor plan after the renovation allowed for a king bed, sizeable nightstands and a large area rug.

Build

Even though this was primarily a decorating project there was still some minor construction. The electrical needed to be updated to incorporate the new wall mounted wall sconces.

The Spaces

Headboard

To add softness and comfort to this Bridgeland, Calgary bedroom an oversized headboard was added. The fabric was a versatile faux leather that is easy to keep clean while still giving the look of a lux natural material. The width also allows for the nightstands and the bed to feel like one cohesive unit.

Custom Bed Frame and Vintage Nightstands

One challenge faced with sourcing vintage furniture is that often the size does not match our current standards. These vintage night stands were much lower than what is common now. In order to accommodate this a custom bed frame was built and custom stained to match.

Ensuite

This primary suite would not be complete without highlighting the ensuite that was added during the earlier renovation. Where there was just one bathroom before now the homeowners had their own space with a large double vanity and walk in shower.

Favourite Find

Working with the homeowners to source the custom art work was a highlight. We were able to use a photograph the husband took hiking on the West Coast Trail and turned it into a custom oversized piece of art for over the bed with the help of local artist Leah Queen.
